Phonology Module 06: the -AY rime

At home and in the park, students will explore how to relate words by their shared AY rime.

Product Description

Phonology06_AY-01At home and in the park, the Tiny Woman will guide students as they explore the two sound patterns that form a single syllable word: the onset and rime. Students will identify and read words that share the -AY rime and build new words by relating different onsets to this rime. Understanding how onsets and rimes relate to form words is important when reading and writing familiar and unfamiliar words. With these lessons, students are learning to think relationally: how sound parts relate to form whole words, and one important way that words relate to other words. This understanding transfers from text to text in both fiction and nonfiction. Students can also use this syllable structure to help edit their own and others’ writing.
