While visiting the zoo, the Tiny Woman will guide students as they explore the difference between descriptive words and comparative descriptive words. Students will practice adding the suffix ‘er’ to root words to describe the subject of a sentence. These morphology lessons engage students in higher order relational thinking: how affixes relate to root words and how affixes can change how a word relates to other words and phrases. These word and phrase ideas transfer from sentence to sentence and text to text in fiction and nonfiction. This understanding is important when revising or editing their own and others’ writing, and for giving descriptive feedback to peers.
